University of Massachusetts School of Medicine Aaron Lazare Medical Research Building, Worchester, MA The University of Massachusetts Medical School's New Research Building is a 229,000 net square foot biomedical research facility. The facility will house the departments of Genetics, Medicine, Cancer, Neuroscience and Biochemistry. The total research space of 198,000 square feet will occupy 8 floors. The generic laboratory design will feature a flexible laboratory furniture system. This will allow for user customization of individual research space. A Linear Equipment Corridor Scheme was used to increase efficiency while freeing lab bench space, by locating noisy, heat producing, or intermittently used equipment items outside of the laboratory proper. A central core of laboratory support rooms will serve a variety of functions as a support element for dedicated or shared use by research staff.
