Rice University Keck Hall Chemistry Building, Houston, TX The Rice University Keck Hall Chemistry Building Renovation encompasses the restoration of an 89,000 gsf historic building (built in 1927) within which will be located new state-of-the-art research laboratories, teaching laboratories, and classrooms dedicated to the Biochemistry & Cell Biology and Bioengineering Departments. The laboratory spaces were designed such that the boundaries between the teaching laboratories and the research laboratories are diminished to encourage collaboration and interaction. Functionally, the research laboratory spaces were designed for flexibility while allowing for customization for each individual investigator's requirements. The Biochemistry & Cell Biology research laboratories were designed as open labs with direct access to dedicated support spaces such as tissue culture, electrophoresis, laser, radioisotope/x-ray rooms, and offices.
