As Principal, Richard Kalish is responsible for laboratory programming and design consulting services to institutional, corporate and governmental clientele. Located in our Irvine office, Richard is an expert at developing innovative, practical laboratory planning solutions to clients throughout the United States. With 28 years of experience as an architect and laboratory planner, Richard integrates the design of the laboratory to the working environment of each user group. Mr. Kalish's expertise includes undergraduate science facilities, institutional research laboratories and local and federal government facilities. Prior to GPR, Richard worked for two nationally recognized laboratory design consulting firms: Earl Walls & Associates and McLellan & Copenhagen.

U.S. Department of Agriculture
Consolidated Laboratory Facility, Ames, IA … include laboratories and support space for domestic diseases of livestock and poultry; veterinary biologics and the development of standards and procedures for product release; and animal specimens for domestic and foreign animal disease investigation and the production of reagents. Laboratory work will be done at two biological safety levels: BSL-2 and enhanced BSL-3.

University of California, San Francisco
Mission Bay Building 19A NeuroSciences Laboratory, San Francisco, CA … Phase 1 of this project includes Vivarium space on each of the floors (a vertical Vivarium) and a compliment of related Testing Rooms since Systems Neuroscience work is predominantly with animals. Phase 2 includes more traditional wet lab and wet lab support space, similar to other Mission Bay laboratory buildings, as well as addition Vivarium and Testing space. Phase 2 also includes a larger Vivarium space on the ground floor for rodents, cats, birds, fish, and non-human primates.

Northwestern University
Pancoe Life Sciences/CEAR Building, Evanston, IL … With an emphasis on cross discipline collaboration, the new facility in addition to providing for the research needs of Northwestern University, will house selected research laboratories for the use of nearby Evanston Hospital. The research portion of the Life Science Building provides space consisting of four generic laboratory floors and a full basement 12,000 NSF vivarium (BSL3 / ABSL3).
